To say all Irish people have a drink problem is quite clearly an outrageous generalization based on an offensive cultural stereotype.
However, it is probably fair to say that a lot of the young Irish ESL teachers in Korea are massive piss-heads - much like the young Brits except a little chippier. |

Yep, we've got one woman's word that this happened.
So, l-p, why is this more believable than the woman claiming she was raped?
And I'm not saying this didn't happen. I'm just askin'. |

This goes against the grain of the stereotypical luck of the Irish.
IMHO, I find Irish women to be way more beautiful than some of the shlags who come to Korea from UK, US, CAN. Australians and Kiwis are cool though. |

Me too, though I'm fortunate enough to be from a country whose national stereotype couldn't possibly be further from the truth.

The recruiter replaces diplomacy with brutal honesty, its almost standard procedure here. It reminds me of another aspect of discrimination here.
Age discrimination has been outlawed in Korea for years, it is considered a human rights violation.
But when applying for a residency visa with the point system, you get bonus points for being within the "ideal" age range. |

P.J. O'Rourke in Holidays in Hell, Seoul Brothers described Koreans as the Irish of Asia, I believe drinking was one of his comparative measures. |
