|

Okay, I'm an idiot. Can you 'split' a modem, meaning, can I use one modem for two computers? Like one for the desktop connection and split the connection for my laptop? I do have two cable modems but wonder if I need them. The laptop has a wireless LAN connection..
Just a question from one who doesn't know...
Thanks. |

Yes. Get a hub. You may have a problem with I.P. addresses though. |

Yes, a router is the ideal choice, it's much better and more ideal for maintaining speeds at both systems, besides, routers can be a hardware piece of security, acting as a firewall ... it's a good ideal for most anyone actually |

And since you've got a wireless card in the laptop, I'd suggest getting a wireless router that's got a 4-port switch in it. That way you can run a cable from the desktop to the router and have the laptop get online wirelessly.
