I don't get it. If the age of consent in Korea is only 13, why was Quincy Black convicted of a crime?

The age of consent in Korea is 13, so any conviction requires proof that the minor was forced into sex.

Check the crime for him.
Had nothing to do w/ having sex with the girl or her being underage.
The production and distribution of pornography in Korea is illegal; that is what he is being charged with.
However, from what I have read he is going to get off (no pun intended) before the two year sentence is up due to the way he was extradited to Korea.
Short story goes something like this:
Initially charged with production of pornography. International authorities didnt care. Charge was changed to distribution of child pornography. International authorities found him and sent him back to Korea. That charge won't stick due to laws here, so once again he is merely being charged with production and distribution of pornography.
This law really needs a serious change. |

From all the articles I read about Quincy Black they label him as African American. So for any American citizen regardless of the age of consent in that country, American law dictates that a sexual partner must be at least 18 years of age, otherwise its illegal. Perhaps they wanted to use American law against him? I have no idea, but I do remember reading about the whole 18 years of age thing. |

It was years ago. I think it's been upped to 16. But being a teacher you still can't get with your high school students. Just like in the west. Under 16 could be jail time while over might not be? Not sure. Either way, he didn't pay the blood money so he's off to jail. |

1. It never got changed
2. He did pay blood money
Also in the West (US/Canada anyway) it is still statutory rape if the parents want to press charges and that will get your ass on a sexual predator list for the rest of your life. Good luck getting a job after that.
Korea protects these jokers.
Huge difference. |

Ah ok.
I just saw the jail time.

But, if the age of consent is only 13, I assume he got a jail sentence because of filming it, then? |

The only jail time he is facing is because he distributed pornography. The blood money was for taking pictures/videos without consent for 1-2 of the women. |

Age of consent does not equal non-statutory rape.
In many us states 13/14 is the aoc. But that didn't protect my favorite coach. |

No, it doesn't. Federal age of consent is 16 years old. While many states have an age of consent that is 17 or 18 and supersedes the federal law, 18 is not the norm: http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_sexual_consent_in_the_United_States. |

The porn part was the only illegal thing. I read about another teacher who slept with someone the same age. He didn't break any laws because he didn't make a porn video out of the encounter. |

Perhaps I wasnt clear on it, so that was my fault. I meant between an American and a citizen of another country in that country. In South Korea, for an American adult to have sex with someone that person must be 18 (or the equivalent of 18 ). Im trying to find the page where I read that, so when I do, il be sure to edit my posting. |
