I need a break from teaching students abroad so just wondering who here has set up their own academy in their country for kids.

I'm American and this would be a part-time thing on top of regular full-time work so I doubt I'd need a business license. Perhaps a location connected to a university might be a good place to start from (kids and adults).

I've seen several tutoring websites set-up already.

Probably would need wheels to teach in their homes or a library as most American parents want to stay home and relax in the evening if they work during the day.

Not trying to knock your idea, but you ask about starting an academy, and then go on to describe part-time tutoring jobs, either at the students' homes or in libraries, which is completely different.

Both things are do-able, but I would imagine starting a true academy in a brick and mortar building would take some bucks, not only to start but to withstand the first year or so until you get established.

Brick and morter schools are going to be heavily regulated. Nobody starts a K-12 school for profit, not even private schools. You could try putting ads in the paper for tutoring, but people are already doing this. Community Colleges already provide a lot of what you are probably thinking about anyway.

There are so many regulations in our "free country," the USA would probably be among the most difficult countries for an American citizen to open such a school.

Well nobody is free to open up a crap school with absolutely no standards whatsoever. K-12 schools are never started over profit, there are other considerations that those who start the private school.
