(please tell me if I've posted this in the wrong area...)

Does anyone have any information/recommendations about a school called LCI Academy (Language Clubs International) in Bundang (Jeonja-dong campus)?

I received an offer from them, and while the schedule and pay doesn't seem half bad, I've heard horror stories about LCI Academies. I believe this campus is a franchise and a part of the LCI brand, but I've also read that hagwons will change their names to avoid the horrid blacklist.

At any rate, is LCI a part of Kids Clubs, Inc? I'm having a damning time differentiating between the two because of previous posts I've read.

Anyone have any info. on this particular hagwon.

Here are the basics of the contract:
133 teaching hours per month
9:00 - 6:30 PM (Mon-Fri.) w/ 1 hour prep. & 1 hour for lunch
2.4 million won (per month)
1 paid sick day per year
400,000 KWON arrival advance for adjustment to Korea
Single housing included
400.000 KWON deposit, 200,000 KWON taken from 3rd and 4th paycheck
50/50 pension, health insurance included
Salary severance
20,000 KWON per hour over the 133 contracted hours
paid airfare to Korea (1 way)

Most LCI's work you to the bone. Expect several hours of unpaid overtime per month. Apartments are usually grimy. Lots of last minute changes (I'm talking 2:55PM when your class starts at 3PM.

Depends on the management really. You might find an LCI here and there that has good management, but there aren't many of those. 2.4 for an LCI is pretty good, and they say they pay pension?

Most LCI's don't pay pension.

If you have other offers, feel those out. Talk to some of the teachers in the school, including possibly one of the people you are replacing.

133 teaching hours per month seems high.

2.4 million won per month is good if the hours and schedule are good.

1 paid sick day per year isn't enough. I would never except a job that doesn't give at least 3.

Single housing is good.

I don't like housing deposits. I wouldn't let it stop me from taking a good job.

50/50 pension, health insurance is good.

20,000 won per hour overtime should be the very minimum. Again, 133 hours not so good.

Paid airfare to Korea would be a must for me. I would want return airfare also.

...

I wouldn't take this job unless I was desperate.

Better~

30 hours per week

3 paid sick days

10 days paid vacation

Return Airfare

Thanks for the info.
I ended up accepting another job next to Hongik University.

I took a 100,000 KWON pay cut, but I figure it's worth it since I only work less than 8 hours a day.

Thanks for the advice! Smile
