Due to all the hype, and the fact I love science, I went to watch Interstellar last night.
What struck me most wasn’t the story line, the visual imagery, the pseudo science or actual science etc., it was the fact that the cinema was packed full.
Everyone I’ve met is talking about this movie, and though it may be a fad, I’m really pleased to see that things like this, Neil Tyson and others, are making science and physics etc. accessible to people - and people are enjoying it!
Finally, the general populace are beginning to take their heads out of their own arses, even if it is just for a peek about.

I tried to see it last weekend and couldn't get it. This weekend I have to go to an inconvenient cinema just to see it. I liked the movie. But I also wonder why it is so popular here in Korea. Is it doing so well in America too (too lazy to search) |

I was surprised its doing so well here, too. Maybe its transformers and iron mans influence?
Anyway, like I said, its not such a bad thing all things considered... |

It was okay, I wouldn't say it was great. What I liked about it was that I couldn't predict how it would turn out - that's important to me. |

This movie looks like it would be great to watch at the cinema, but fairly average at home. Might try to get out and watch it next weekend. If not, I'll just wait until it hits piratebay. |

I was surprised by how many of my students had already seen it. Today, in one of my classes, we talked about it and out of 12 students, 6 had seen it. Each of them said they enjoyed it, but when I asked them if they understood it they all shook their heads and said they didn't know what was going on. I thought that was pretty funny. |

I thought it was pretty good, but not as good as people are talking it up to be.
The science bits were alright, the "love transcends space and time" bits were pure cheese.
Also, it's a bit intense for almost three hours longs. And Nolan's **BWWWWOOOOMMMMPPPPPP** soundtracks are becoming a bit cliche. |

I legitimately jumped out of my chair when the explosion happened.
I liked it. Not quite the level to be a classic but nearly there. |

I liked it. Didn't understand fully, but pretty cool.
Christopher Nolan has become the default Korean go to director.
I remember when I used to ask "who is a famous director?" the answer was always "Shpeelberga". Nolan is now the answer. |

I'm yet to be convinced about the apparent genius of Christopher Nolan. Memento was good, and Inception was an entertaining enough yarn - even though it reminded me of a slightly more laboured and less fun Total Recall.
The Batman movies failed to move me in any way. Apart from that performance by Heath Ledger, they were totally forgettable, humourless, cliche-ridden borefests. |

I really liked it. Its exactly the kind of big movie I like to see in the theatre and I'm a massive sucker for Americana so it was an enjoyable experience. |

Very, very good film.
Really entertaining, and it was one of the most realistic presentations of time dilation produced by interstellar travel and going too close to heavy gravitational sources that I have ever seen. The science and the humanistic element were combined very well, which is rare in a Hollywood movie IMO.
I do hope that more people become interested in space and spaceflight in the future. In the long term, civilsations (if not outright humanities) continued survival depends on it. |

Ok...I saw it and thought it sucked.
If you enjoy 'Hollywood' science...then yes it had some references to science.
As for real science or logic...the movie lacks all round.
And damn that Matthew McConaughey is annoying.
What Bob mentions about the 'love' part....sheesh....suckage.
The astronaut behind the bookshelf part...give me a break.
Not sure if JMO was being wickedly sarcastic, but..if you are a massive sucker for Americana...you might enjoy it. |

Really? As a physicist I though the science regarding spaceflight and the effects of time dilation caused by it were better than anything else Hollywood has come up with in a long time. Admittedly that isn't the biggest bar to clear, but...
As for the bookshelf part - yeah, that was massively contrived, but the inside of a black hole is the one place in the universe where we can imagine anything and it might be true, because not only do we not know what lies beyond an event horizon, we will probably never know. |
