Hi all!

I've been thinking about starting a sideline business once i'm back in California, helping people find good hagwon jobs in Korea. I would do all the paperwork, job hunting, communication, ect. for the applicant. I would also be there if they have any questions or concerns.

I feel that most recruiters are Korea based and that it would be beneficial for the applicants to have someone that is closer to home for them. Also, since i've lived in Korea for a while, I could help them choose a good location/job.

Does anyone have experience in this area? What type of problems might I run into?

Thanks!

Why would you only recruit for Korea? Is it any better than it was 5 years ago?

I don't see positive posts making Korea a good place to go to, or in my case return to.

How will you find good jobs and do the paperwork while you're in California? Unless the job applicants where living in the same city as you or very nearby, most will likely just be dealing with you by email and over the phone - same as with recruiters based in Korea. At least (in theory) the recruiters in Korea might have actually gone to look at the school.

I think that most of the foreign based recruiters/agencies that I've seen, also have a branch in Korea that's working with the schools. If you want to run an agency abroad, you'll probably need a partner in Korea (likely an agency that's known among hogwon owners).

I can't think of one a ESL teacher I've met over the past 20 years or so who hasn't thought about recruiting. Actually, there are a number of ex teachers doing just that.

I wouldn't want to bet my ability to pay my rent on business prospects when operating from outside of Korea. Or from inside Korea, come to think of it.
