With all the job applications requesting a copy of your ARC, ARCs getting lost, etc. I was wondering, is there anything someone can do with your ARC card (more specifically, your ARC number) that could be potentially harmful? Like sign up for another bank card, etc. I see ARC numbers kind of like a level below a social security number. Just curious.

You can use the ARC to get ONE free massage at the local barber shop, just don't try to take advantage of their kindness.

I suppose that if someone looked a bit like you, they could use it to open a bank account (or perhaps access your current account, but I think the banks would ask for more ID in that case) or get a phone plan. If your boss was in on the scam, someone might get a job somewhere using your ID and you'd potentially be left holding the bag when it came time to "your" taxes. This would probably only work if the person had your current, valid ARC (and not a copy or a card you reported as lost). Similarly, they might be able to transfer it to another school if you were leaving the country at the end of your contract. That would probably also involve someone else being in on the scam and immigration might catch on that you'd left the country and not returned, especially if you cancelled your visa on the way out.
