A bit late, but happy New Year everyone.

Here is my first question of 2015!

a) Have you ever considered of being a teacher?
b) Have you ever considered being a teacher?
c) Have you ever thought of being a teacher?

I don't have any problems with (b) or (c), but is it grammatically correct to use "of" in sentence (a)? It sounds odd to my ears. In one grammar book (in the section of ing vs. infinitive form, I found "consider + v-ing" with no mention about "of" (doesn't mean it's wrong though).

On the net, there are many examples of "considered of ~ing". For example, I found: Have you ever considered of changing your occupation?

Could this be a case of American English vs. British English?

Option a), to my ear, sounds flat out wrong. Raised on Canadian english, I've usually at least heard most existing Brit & American variations, but this one never.

I speculate its a mistaken back-formation from option c)?
