I'm looking for a teaching position in Jeonju. Can anyone tell me of a good school in Jeonju? Any area specific job search web sites would be good too. Most postings on the main sites are for larger cities so I have to browse through hundreds of postings to find one for Jeonju.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most of the job websites I look at have search functions. There's no need to scroll through all the jobs when you can just hit the search button and type in "Jeonju." Try that.

Thanks for the advice. I've tried that a bit but found it frustrating as everyone and their dog spells it differently...Jeonju, Cheonju, Jonju, Jeounju, Jon ju...are all variations I have seen.

Yes, romanization of Korean isn't very standardized. The Korean government has a list of official romanizations of city names, but the problem is that they've changed the official romanizations I think twice in the past two decades. Try posting your resume on Dave's (see the link at the top of the page). Make the title something like "American looking for job in Cheonju."

Be careful on spelling. For enhanced specifics ask whether the city is the very same as the city Jeonju in cheollabukdo/jeollabukdo.

I heard some bad things about working on the island.

My girlfriend and I were planning to work there next year until we heard from a friend who had worked there that his director actually physically hit him! Shocked

He said nice place to visit...but not a great place to work.

I think you're confusing Jeonju with Jeju. Jeonju definitely is not an island.

maybe I should spell it phonetically

Jon-joo

or

Chon-joo

I'm not sure if Jeonju is boring or not but that's where I gotta go

You would need to use IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) to do that properly.

http://www2.arts.gla.ac.uk/IPA/fullchart.html

Korean sounds are very different from English sounds so there is no good way to spell it phonetically other than . If you insist on using the roman alphabet, I actually suggest Cheonju. The initial is unvoiced whereas the post-consonantal is voiced. is a central and closed-mid vowel that doesn't really have a good corresponding sound in English. is a closed back vowel but the labia are much more rounded than in English.

Jeonju is not boring, it's actually a medium size city with a laid back atmosphere and nice taxi drivers. Deepin (also has a website) is the bar foreigners frequent on most nights. Trivia night with pooled prize money is held in a bar owned by an aussie guy's relatives(fish n chips). It's a very pleasant place, you'll enjoy yourself. Oh btw, the food is exceptional too, I have my fav restaurants and I live an 1.3 from Jeonju, always a pleasure..
