I went through the Busan ferry terminal on New Years day, and the prices did not reflect the new increase.

Seeing as how the increase is purely tax, maybe duty-free prices arent affected? I dont know. I'm curious too.

I'm also curious about how much a shop-owner makes off selling a pack (probably not much). I wonder if their profit margin rose.

Korea mulls duty on duty free cigarettes
http://www.koreaobserver.com/korea-mulls-duty-on-duty-free-cigarettes-25398
Quote:
An average pack of cigarettes sells for 4,500 won ($4.15) at ordinary stores and taxes account for 3,318 won, 73.7 percent of its price.

However, you can still purchase a pack of cigarettes for 1,900 won at duty free stores in Korea. The entire 3,318 in taxes are exempted.

The article also says that even though you're limited to two cartons, lots of people buy more, and they rarely get caught because no one checks. I'm as surprised as you must be that this law goes unenforced [/sarcasm]

Still cheap. It was less than $20 U.S. per carton of any brand.
