I teach a graduate school course on translating from Korean to English. All of my students are Korean - they are not native English speakers.

They want to look at how to translate "poetic" expressions in Korean to common "poetic" English expressions.

For example, there was this kid who had some horrible eye disease and 빛을 잃었다.

Literally, he lost the lights. However, in English, the "poetic" translation would be:

the lights went out
everything became dark
lost his vision
etc.

I'm looking for a list of expressions like 빛을 잃었다. I searched on naver, but I;m not the best at surfing the web in Korean.

Do any of you have a similar list or know where I could obtain one?

judging by the translation given by Google and the whol host of on-line translators that seems to lose the meaning, there probably isn't one. It seems to be your calling in life. Why don't you get started making one yourself?

If you are talking about something more conceptual, we would need more of the context. Have they lost their vision in life?
