Has anyone considered doing a TED Talk on Racism in Korea?
I think it would be worthy subject for a TED Talk.

While I'm on board with racism and bigotry in Korea administered by a portion of the people we encounter; what does it have to do with Technology, Entertainment and Design?
I can understand why you'd want to 'get the word out' to the rest of the world about Korean attitudes toward foreigners, but keep in mind that a whole lot of people have already come through Korea and seen it before you and I have, and believe me - they remember well and tell everyone they meet how bad some Koreans can be.
But also keep in mind that it's human nature to retain the good memories and filter out the bad ones after you've left. At least that's what I've experienced. |

It's a perfect topic for TED, where people talk about problems and pretend they're doing something about them.
It's like Sunday school for intellectuals. |

There's definitely alot of racism in korean media , like the constant black face on variety and don't get me started on YG's artists, but a TED talk on it seems hard to do because you'd then need to talk about other country's racism too |

Hmm, could go either way on that one. In the short term we're more likely to dwell on the bad stuff often enough, because it is the exception (hopefully). Like we barely remember the 99 people who just acted like normal decent people but that one jerk will stay in mind for days or even much longer. I think with Korea, a lot of people who lived there for years and were unhappy with it, retain that cringe reaction for a long time after they leave. |

I think that's a fantastic idea. I've pm'd WorldTraveler to spearhead the cause. |

if any of you yahoos had a clue, it might be a great idea.
What I predict?
some bent out of shape waygook trying to apply his cultural norms and expectations to another culture and getting upset when the natives don't bend to his will. |

I've received no such PM. Why don't you give a TED talk detailing your adventures of dating Kpop stars who hunt African tribesmen for sport, being offered threesomes by random women on the street, winning thousands of dollars in casinos, and partying with Hines Ward. I'm sure it'll be a huge hit.
...and you can tell people about the time you went to jail:

Query: Do you have any stories of folks who tried to pass themselves off as something they're not when in Korea?
I liked to claim that I was a filmmaker and had ideas. The fact is I did have some meager plans but of course didn't produce anything. |

You really think someone would do that? Just come to korea and lie? |
Definitely. Some people choose to "reinvent" themselves when given the opportunity. |

I went to a Burlington Coat Factory in Gangnam, as well as a TJ Maxx and Marshalls at World Cup Stadium. Tons of hot stuff, towels, sheets, and socks. Also got an hj in a dvd bang when the cashier got off work. |

I went to one of these in Flushing. Ordered a large iced americano, and the barista only put one shot in, claiming all drinks get a single shot.
got a donut, and it was full of black bean paste.
all the local kids who worked there wore the same berets and striped shirts.
very similar to korean PB. Also similar, i got to 3rd base with the korean cashier in the alley. |

COUNTERPOINT: Don't let this lesson deter you guys from all risky decisions. One of my biggest regrets was being singled out by two young ladies on a Seoul side street who said "Two girls, one guy."
I laughed it off, imagining I was about to get fleeced, but in retrospect, it was in a quiet, residential area, fairly early, and didn't stink of hoodwink. Another time, I met a very busty fox at Cheers and cut it off after making out with her in the freezing toilet, thinking we could pick pick it up later and I was being a gentleman. Got a fairly hilarious lashing from her bf the next day when I texted her. Didn't know he existed, and I certainly didn't expect to hear her ranting and raving and crying in the background from an innocent kakao message.
Bottom line: be smart, spare the card, take the 3 some when it's offered. |

I can say that of the 20+ countries I've been to, Korea is the only place where I was eating a meal in a restaurant, and the waitress told me that the owner adjuma wanted to give me a handjob in the backroom for cash. |

Good to see you are practicing your creative writing skills. Maybe you can write a screen play about your adventures in Korea. Look out James Frey!
