I completely agree with the protesters.

I disagree with the protesters. If you don't like the price of something, don't partake.

I agree about the advertisements actually. I pay over $10 to see a movie and I still have to sit through tons of ads before the movie starts? Also, having to pay for the use of 3D glasses is annoying.

This is kind of a stupid protest. Unless the economics of Korean cinemas are dramatically different from those in the States - which I'm guessing they're not, particularly when it comes to Hollywood films - they don't make a whole lot off of the movie ticket, instead depending on ancillary revenue for their profits. Korean theaters are generally more consistently crowded than those in North America, with less empty screenings mandated by studios, so they may do better on ticket price alone. Even so, this strikes me as being some seriously ham-fisted lefty activism.

Oligopoly

An oligopoly is a market form in which a market or industry is dominated by a small number of sellers (oligopolists). Oligopolies can result from various forms of collusion which reduce competition and lead to higher prices for consumers.

They sure fit the definition.

I agree regarding the prices.

As for the onslaught of commercials before every movie, many shown two or even three times, they've got a legitimate gripe. They paid to see a movie not commercials.

As for treatment of employees, that's not really a consumer issue. Employees should report it to the relevant government agency.

I am personally more outraged by the terribly low quality of Korean porn than CGV's business practices.

Where's the candle light vigil for that?

Ticket to a movie where I come from would be about double what it is in Korea. I've always found the movie going experience here to be one of the more agreeable things about living in Korea.
Reasonable price, people generally keep their traps shut. Parking is free at all the cinemas in my city. Obviously that's not the case in the main centers.

All part-time workers get shit on from a great height in this country. One of my students worked part time at CGV and she said they had a massive staff turnover.

Lately, the theatre has told me when the movie starts. For example, if the movie starts at 4:10 pm, they tell me the movie starts at exactly 4:10 pm. I guess they were having people intentionally coming in 10-15 minutes late because they don't want to watch 3-4 commercials about corn tea.

Stil a few people come in late because they don't frickin' listen but I try to time it for 5 minutes befopre the time they state.

No movie that I've seen in the past few years has started on time. Knowing that people do come late, and you can't really blame them.
