Hi,

I am wondering if it is possible to come to Korea with all my relevant documents and have my prospective employer get a visa issuance number and then go from Korea to Japan on a visa run?

Any advice welcome.

Yes, it's possible, lots of people do it.

Are you planning to come to Korea to look for work, or is someone trying to get you to fly over for a job with the promise of a visa run later?

If you Google it, you'll come up with lots of info on visa runs. You can also use Google to search this forum. It's a very common topic.

If you have a specific questions about visa runs, ask it and you'll likely get an answer from someone who recently did a visa run.

Just so that you know, the standard deal is that if a school wants you over ASAP and can't wait for you to get the visa first, they pay the flight to Korea AND for the visa run (ticket to Japan plus hotel). If you're lucky then they'll throw in some spending money but don't count on it. If they aren't offering you the flight in advance to Korea, don't take the offer. It could mean that they want to check you out before they decide whether or not to keep you. You might never get reimbursed and you might be out of a job within a month. (It happens a lot more than you might think.) The visa run flight-hotel package will cost at least 300,000 Won. That's the minimum that you'd pay for a special offer package if you spend some time shopping around and have a bit of luck to be doing so when a special offer happens to come out but more likely it will cost over 400,000. If the job is in Busan, you could save some money by taking the ferry to Japan but it's slow and presents problems of timing to get to the consulate in time and you'd probably end up staying an extra night at the hotel.
