Up until now I thought the 6-month expiration only applies to FBI background check. So I never bothered to renew the apostille for the diploma. It was issued about a year ago. Today I spoke to a recruiter and he let me know that the apostille for my diploma is more than 6 months old and is expired.

Now I'm just confused, as to why other recruiters never mentioned it. Can someone confirm if there is an expiration date for the apostille'd diplomas?

An apostille has no expiry date and cannot expire, but a country can set a requirement that the apostille must have been issued within a certain timeframe, eg six months.

I've had friends who had a few degrees apostilled all at once about 3 or 4 years ago who have used them recently to come to Korea. I had more than one done myself in 2012 to have as a backup, but didn't with the CBC because it expires.

The 6 months for the CBC is nothing to do with the apostille. It's six months from the date of the CBC, and that's to prevent people with criminal convictions from using a very old clear background check.

It is possible that there's a new immigration law, but I can't seem to find anything about it online, so I would assume the recruiter has made a mistake.

I'm applying to a village school in South Korea. I'm sure my apostille'd diploma will pass, but I'll get another in case something did change.

Here is what he emailed me.

Obtaining your E2 Visa
1. Send the following to Nowon English Village via a secure shipping service such as FedEx, UPS or DHL
A. Three (3) signed copies of your contract – one for NEV, one for Immigration, one will be returned to you when you arrive. (I will email this to you)
B. One hard copy of your resume
C. Photocopy of university diploma with Apostille Seal or Official Letter of Graduation with Apostille Seal. (For Canadians, must be notarized by the Korean Consulate in Canada instead of the Apostille Seal.)
*This is valid for 6 months from the issued date.
D. One (1) Official sealed transcripts from your university.
E. Four (4) official color passport photos
F. One copy of your passport information page.
G. One copy of the medical assessment form. – please request it if you have not received it. *It is very important this is accurate. You will require a physical medical examination at a Korean hospital on arrival. If there are any inconsistencies, you will be deported immediately.
H. Original copy of your federal level criminal background check with Apostille Seal. (For Canadians, must be notarized by the Korean Consulate in Canada instead of the Apostille Seal.)
*This is valid for 6 months from the issued date.

If there are going to be delays with obtaining any of this documentation, you must advise me of expected time frames.
