A lot of my friends (mates) are complaining of burning eyes, coughing at night, sinus infections. I broke down and got an air purifier (a large one by Winix) that I bought from Homeplus. I will sleep with the thing on.

Don't worry, I have the courage as tall as Mudeung-San and can face sleeping with an air purifier on. Actually, I was able to breathe a lot better last night and felt much better this morning.

There has been a massive band of dust sweeping across NE Asia the past few days from the Gobi. Beijing was literally down to about 50m visibility two days ago. Worst its ever been.

fortunately the rain should clear everything now.

I bought the bigger sized Winix (from homeplus) unit since I've got a pretty big living room. I did have more energy this morning. Gmarket has some good Samsung air purifiers on there.

I read that the pollution hasn't been this bad in 5 years. I left Korea in 2009 and came back in 2011, so I missed that previous record. It seems like the pollution's worse than it used to be. For some reason, drinks green tea (using a couple of tea bags) seems to help me a bit. I'm not sure if it's the placebo effect at play.

http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2015/04/116_177387.html

More than 15,000 adults aged over 30 died in 2010 in Seoul and Geyonggi Province from complications caused by air pollution, a study showed Monday.

The number accounts for more than 15 percent of the annual death toll for adults in that age group in the region.

That really bites, so I exited Korea before the pollution, you know what, hit the fan. These past few months I've found that my nose kind of feel blocked without having a cold. Of course, that can affect your sleep.
I would advise you to get an air purifier. You could easily sell it once you leave. I find that it helps.
