|
|
Hey,
Previously worked at a hagwon in Korea but was unfortunately forced to flee - co-workers were running and would have left me alone to deal with the aftermath.
Aside from this I actually enjoyed Korea and am quite keen to return.
Should I include the experience but warn employers at the doubtfulness of obtaining a reference or simply leave it off?
Have since got a new passport which shows no record of previous visa.
Cheers,
Larry |

I would leave it off. If they contact the school it going to make you look bad and you explaining the situation isnt going to make you look good either.

Yeah, I would say leave it off, too. Especially if the place is still open and you may've really stung 'em by leaving. Is nine, or so, months of teaching in the ROK really going to make a HUGE difference these days? Probably not. Do some good research on the new school you want to work at. You'll probably see that they're not offering much better in the way of basics with a year, or no year, in.
Regarding your new passport, your new ARC will have your old ARC number on it, unless things have changed yet again in the past few years, regardless of your passport number being different.
Best of luck/skill. |

Thanks! One question though. In going through the process of getting a new E2 visa is there any way the new school could find out I've previously worked in Korea? |

I think all they have to do is ask an agent at immigration. If they then ask you about the past job, tell them what happened. I left my first job in Korea in the same manner as you. I completed all my other 17 yearly contracts here. What happened to us, happens to 100s of people here yearly. No worries.
p.s The only time it may hurt you is when immigration is assessing an F visa application. It likely would be a mark against you. For immigration. Not a potential employer. |
