last night it was working fine, but this morning i turned it on and nothing! i checked all the connections, pulled everything out and put it back in. i can tell the power adapter is working because the green light is on. the monitor 'on' button won't light up and the monitor is black. it's a sony flat screen monitor and it's only a year and a half old. any ideas? |

Is your system "going through the motions" of booting up when you turn it on? Like post beep etc.
What you should maybe do, is just plug it into a working system to determine if its the monitor, or your VGA card. Thats the easiest way. |

Although, if it were the VGA card, the monitor would power up, with the "no video signal" message. The 'no green light' thing has me concerned....
Hate to say it, but it's either your monitor fried (was there any storm action in your area last night? Power surges do wonders for computers) or the socket in the wall. I guess you tried a different plug? Also, if you can, try a different adapter...the one you have may be on the fritz. |

the computer is booting up normally, beeps and everything. i also plugged the monitor into a working laptop and the laptop screen goes blank, as if it's connecting to the monitor. only thing is the green light on the monitor doesn't go on. like i said, the power adapter's green light is on though...strange. oh, i also plugged in the monitor to different known working sockets. looks like i am going to have to get it serviced.
i appreciate the responses. |

Thats not usually the case. The monitor usually just checks for a physical connection. |

Not to be contentious, but that physical check is done with a signal check, and a dead VGA perhaps wouldn't give such a signal, equating to the monitor that there is no physical connection. Yes, there are different areas of a VGA card that can blow out; it may well still send a signal. If this is the case, then even stranger that the monitor wouldn't power up.
I have seen this happen a number of times from dead VGA cards, but never had the monitor not power up at all because of it.
Even a monitor standing alone will power up. Anyways, it is definately the monitor that has the problem. |

Well, in any case it sounds like the monitor is faulty. |
