I have resigned from my school one month ago - contract states that I need to give 60 days. However my school refuses to acknowledge my resignation and are playing dumb saying that I have never resigned and this is the first that they have heard about it.
I have spoken to some people - apparently I have to go to the post office to get some kind of stamp or something. Does anybody know anything about this? I would appreciate some help here as I need to finish here soon to start working at a new school |

Just because you quit does not mean you can start a new job elsewhere. If you are on an E-2 you need a Letter of Release from your current employer. Even if you follow there rules and give notice, they still do not have to provide you with one. You actually do not even need to give notice. |

The law says you can quit your job with no notice.

This is the real-life equivalent of asking your opponent in Chess what move you should make every move of the game. It simply does not matter what they think. You gave notice. The 60-day requirement is something they dreamed up because, most likely, they scared someone off before you arrived.

"Okay, I moved my pawn like you suggested and you took my knight. What should I do now?"
Were any of those "some people" conversant in the labor law? They're talking through their hats.

The important considerations are what kind of visa you're in Korea on, and if you have all your documents ready to apply for a new visa. Contact ttompatz for actual information. And quit asking your former boss what the rules are. |

Kind of need more information, OP. Did you give them 60 days notice? Are you breaking contract or are you within your last two months of finishing? Sounds like the former.
Not sure what you need from the post office. Sounds like BS to me. The 60 days notice is a formality anyway.
EDIT: Just do what CentralCali suggested. |

You have an employer who is playing low and loose with the rules. You can pretty much expect to get burned on at least one if not 2 months worth of salary.
Wait until you get paid and just leave. They CANNOT legally force you to stay or to work against your will.
The only downside is that you cannot likely work in Korea again until the expiry date of your current ARC.
Try China, Taiwan or Vietnam for your next adventure.

Next time send it via email. You need a paper trail. Good luck. |

What is the benefit of giving ANY notice? Do you get something in exchange for this?
When they refused your resignation letter (or did you resign verbally) did they actually keep it? Or give it back to you? If they didn't give it back then you can bet that they kept it on file in case they need to use it to their advantage. |

It could come into play if there is a case brought to the labor board. The company must give you a 30 day notice unless you are fired for gross misconduct. |
