I have an MA from Yonsei University Graduate School & a BA from the University of British Columbia (UBC). I'm trying to get all my documents done for visa purposes before sending out resumes.
I've been sitting on a new CRC for 1.5 months now and it's just about hiring season.
I foolishly thought UBC would live up to their promises and send out a copy of my diploma within 4 weeks but it's taking them 8+ weeks now and still no news other than "it's getting processed."
In my mind, only my MA degree matters, as it is the most recent one and the one that will get me higher salaries and/or better positions. As it's from a Korean university, it would not need a consulate verification. However, one of the recruiters I talked to wanted me to get my BA from UBC verified by Vancouver's consulate anyways.
So I have some options:
1. Send out my original diploma which I have sitting with me here in Korea to my family in Vancouver, get them to notarize a copy & verified by Vancouver consulate.
2. Wait for UBC until who knows when to send out a new diploma + certified copy, get family to go to consulate to have it verified.
3. That recruiter has no idea what he's talking about, only my MA should matter in this situation, start applying for jobs.
Thoughts anyone? |

Its the BA that counts with Immigration. Option 1 is probably your best bet. |

Is your Korean MA well-recognized around the world? back home for example? out of interest. |

The bad news is that for an E2 as an English teacher you need the undergrad degree and it must be from one of the "7" approved countries.
Your post grad qualifications don't matter for an E2 application.
Even if they would accept a masters it is still from the wrong country for an E2 application.
1) Sending your original to Vancouver, getting a notarized copy made and then getting K-embassy certification can be done in 2 weeks including sending the documents both ways.
2) who knows how long that will take. When I needed a duplicate it took them about a month to get it to me.
3) The MA from a Korean uni is meaningless for an E2 application (even if it was an MATESOL or MA Applied Linguistics. You NEED the BA from one of the "7" (Can, USA, UK, Ire, Aus, NZ, S.Africa) for an E2 application.

If you ask nicely/explain situation/smooch/agitate/ full out 'go for it' you'll get is much faster.
'Expected' waiting times are for people who are willing to wait! |
