One of those ubiquitous TV guys who made the occassional foray into movies.

Quote:
Dick Van Patten, the star of TV’s Eight is Enough, has died. He was 86.

Don't think I saw him in much, besides Eight Is Enough, Freaky Friday, and High Anxiety, the Mel Brooks Hitchcock spoof. The latter is underrated in my view, and I noticed that it lost out to things like Spaceballs in the obits.

I also recall seeing him on an infommerical that I only watched for about thirty seconds.

Man, they're dropping like flies. It seems every week there's someone famous from the 70's or 80's passing on. I guess it's that demographic.

About Eight is Enough, if my memory doesn't fail me the older daughter used to be married to John Travolta but she died in an accident or a disease many years ago. I'll have to double-check that.

edit: Travolta dated the 'mother' in the first four episodes before she died of cancer in 1977. Travolta was eighteen years her junior.

Travolta dated women just to keep up appearances. He's gay.

Yeah, he be the man. I've always thought he was a terrific actor, charming and charasmatic. And what a bounce back into the limelight in the 1990's after his long exile for being associated with disco. Very Happy

Couple weeks ago I watched 'Get Shorty" again. What a blast.

He lost his son to some disease a few years ago.

Life!

Morgan Freeman is another one of those 70s guys who more or less vanished in the 80s, and then made a huge comeback in the 90s. He was pretty prominent, if not by name, on the kids show Electric Company, which ended in 1977. Between that time and Lean On Me, his resume looks like this...

Quote:
1988 Clean and Sober
Craig
1988 Clinton and Nadine (TV Movie)
Dorsey Pratt
1987 Fight for Life (TV Movie)
Dr. Sherard
1987 Street Smart
Fast Black
1986 Resting Place (TV Movie)
Luther Johnson
1985 The Execution of Raymond Graham (TV Movie)
Warden Pratt
1985 The Twilight Zone (TV Series)
Tony (segment "Dealer's Choice")
- Act Break/The Burning Man/Dealer's Choice (1985) ... Tony (segment "Dealer's Choice")
1985 Great Performances (TV Series)
Messenger
- The Gospel at Colonus (1985) ... Messenger
1985 That Was Then... This Is Now
Charlie Woods
1985 Marie
Charles Traughber
1985 The Atlanta Child Murders (TV Mini-Series)
Ben Shelter
1984 Teachers
Lewis
1984 Harry & Son
Siemanowski
1981 Death of a Prophet (TV Movie)
Malcolm X
1981 The Marva Collins Story (TV Movie)
Clarence Collins
1981 Ryan's Hope (TV Series)
Cicero Murphy
- Episode #1.1620 (1981) ... Cicero Murphy
- Episode #1.1619 (1981) ... Cicero Murphy
1981 Texas (TV Series)
Detective Michaels
- Episode #1.266 (1981) ... Detective Michaels
- Episode #1.260 (1981) ... Detective Michaels
1981 Eyewitness
Lieutenant Black
1980 Brubaker
Walter
1980 Attica (TV Movie)
Hap Richards
1979 Coriolanus (Video)
Coriolanus
1979 Julius Caesar (Video)
Casca
1979 Hollow Image (TV Movie)
Ralph 'Sweet Talk' Simmons
1978 Visions (TV Series)
- Charlie Smith and the Fritter Tree (1978)
1978 Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry (TV Movie)
Uncle Hammer

Not that Electric Company itself was a star-studded extravaganza, but he at least got a decent amount of exposure out of it.
