Hey y'all
I started my first part time job at a hagwon for the summer (a month) and I got assigned to teaching first graders.
I'm starting to get a hang of my teaching schedule etc., but I have a student who is very slow when it comes to getting any kind of work done. And unfortunately, this causes the other kids to slack a little and I'm unable to finish all the classwork. Any tips on how to deal with a slow esl student?
Also, I teach one class 3 hours straight M-F and so obviously the first graders can't deal with the classes. So by the time there's about half an hour left, they constantly ask when they can go home. Obviously I'd love to play games to cheer them up, but we aren't allowed to play games at this hagwon and it's all about work, work, work...
Any tips or thoughts would be greatly appreciated! |

If it's just one kid who's too slow, grade his worksheets so they're easier, rather than having to come up with activities for loads of early finishers.
Adapt the activities from the course book so they're more dynamic. E.g. The students have to get up and run around the room or compete with each other in some way. Any activity from the course book can be made more fun by cutting it up and sticking it round the room, giving points for early finishers doing a running dictation etc... |
