Hi I'm attending college in Toronto, Canada. I will be graduating next year and I'm trying to find a teaching job in Busan but most of the placement requires University degree. i was wondering if anyone knows programs I can apply with College Diploma other than TaLK... I have been searching for a while and it's really difficult. please help I really want to do. Also I'm korean... I don't know if that will help me or not (most likely it will not).

Dear King-Nex:

I don't know what other government-run programs are available in Busan, but I believe EPIK Busan requires you to have practicum experience along with your bachelor's degree. I was informed by a member of this forum that teaching experience does not equal to practicum hours.

I'm not sure what you want or need at the moment, but in my opinion, you should look for jobs that require you to utilize both Korean and English. I've heard of "Boseop something", hagwons... They are tiny-sized hagwons.

Also, you could get a part-time or part/full-time work teaching grammar to middle school students at a hagwon. I've seen instructors without a degree teaching grammar, TOEIC, and TOEFL at small hagwons and even corporate sized hagwons. They were all Koreans.

If you want please PM for further help. Have a nice day.

-Kong

The ONLY options (as an English teacher) other than the Talk program require a degree (even for Koreans (citizen or F4)).

Your non-degree diploma won't cut it anywhere in east Asia for legal work as a teacher.

Being Canadian the OP may have a 3 year or 4 year degree instead of a diploma depending on the program.

OP can you be more specific with what you are graduating with?

Canadian universities usually are 120 credit hours (~1900 classroom hours /4-years) to complete an undergraduate degree. If you take courses during the intercession (summer classes) you may be able to trim a year off the calendar but it is still 120 credit hours (4 academic years).

A degree says "Bachelor of _____". If it says "diploma" then it isn't a degree.

If it doesn't say "Bachelor of _____" then it won't work for anything but TAlK (regardless of whether he is Korean, Canadian or Korean-Canadian (F4)).

However large Ontario Colleges such as Niagara and Humber also offer 120 credit hour (also 100 credit hour 3 year bachelors [just like all Ontario Universities also offer]) that are bachelor degrees.

Exactly as you said.

Which is why the OP needs to provide more information.
