Hi. I would like to teach English in hagwons. However, it seems that my Chinese background has placed me at a disadvantage. I've sent over 30+ resumes and only 2 recruiters replied back saying that I don't fit their criteria. So now I'm looking for cities outside of Seoul (less competition). Any suggestions? I would like to be near other foreigners since I can't speak Korean. Thanks! |

There are tons of great areas in gyeonggi-do. A lot of them are in better locations than some places "in" Seoul. The other big cities have big foreigner population as well. I personally don't like Seoul because everything feels so spread out. A lot of the planned cities in gyeonggi-do are really nice.
The school you work at will usually have a few other foreigners worker there as well. They should be able to show you around and help you get adjusted. |

Busan, which I heard is just as competitive, or failing that anywhere as near to Seoul as you can get. |

Changeon is nice (Changwon proper, that is).
Yeosu is scenic. |

Dig out your perseverance. When you hit 300 and only have 2 then you have a reason to complain.
A lot of hagwons aren't really hiring right now due to the poor economy and fall in enrollments over MERS.
Patience will reward you with employment provided you have all your documents on hand. Don't rule out EPIK either. They are pretty color blind when it comes to hiring.
When you apply don't mention your ethnicity. You are (whatever passport you hold) and not "Chinese -?????" .

This. I second ttompatz all the way. Stay with your first choice for location, operation, contractual conditions, etc., unless you are unskilled and desperate, in which case, nothing matters: go anywhere and do anything for money. |
