That list needs work

It's a matter of personal taste obviously. Every artist you mentioned has an album or two or three that is rated extremely highly. I just never got into Queen, Radiohead, or Elton John. Jagged Little Pill is a fine album, agreed.

The Beatles have always irked me. Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Peppers, the White Album, Abbey Road. I've heard all of them and I just don't hear unified greatness.

Maybe if you cleaned out your ears, you might! (just kidding - each to his own and all that)

I realise also that you have no Eels on your list. The debut (Beautiful Freak) is an amazing piece of work.

Good evening my friend. As I've more than admitted in this thread, I'm kind of out of it with rock music post 2002. I have, however, heard the Eels Wonderful Glorious, and thought half of the album was full of top notch songs. How would you compare Wonderful Glorious to his/their best albums that came out years earlier?

Where's Neil Young?

Indeed, where is Neil Young? Heard Harvest and don't think it's there. I own Rust Never Sleeps and don't think it's there either.

Obviously, and from what I've read on this thread, a lot of people think I'm egregiously wrong. That's ok. 50 albums in 50 years is 1 album per year. It's hard to crack the rotation with that ratio.

Regardless, thanks to all the opinions and contributions so far.

Let me add a few more I came up with after a decent nights sleep and I wont include anything by the Beatles though I think you are nuts not to include "Rubber Soul" and "Sgt Pepper"

from the late 60's Marvin Gaye's "What's Goin On" it still holds up after all these years

1971's Carole King's "Tapestry" first of the singer/songwriter genre Still holds up especially with James Taylor on background, Yeah chick music album but this guy likes it

Elton John's 1972-73 "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" if only for the opening "Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" Elton at his finest.

Spingsteen's "Nebraska" and "Darkness on the Edge of Town" I adore Born to Run but these two top it.

I'd switch your Dire Straits choice with 1985's "Brothers In Arms" it was the first recording designed for the digital era.

I was pleasantly surprised with your choice of Robbie Robertson, highly underrated album.

I'll add some more later

Indeed.

This album, in my opinion, showed why he was the most talented of the Fab Four.

I think you have to keep something in mind with that album. That was ten years of music he had saved up. While Lennon and McCartney were busy rolling out number one hits, Harrison was storing things in the tank.

There's only so many bullets in the gun for rock artists. Lennon and McCartneys best work came with the Beatles, while their solo stuff wasn't as good. The opposite was true for Harrison, but that doesn't make him more talented.

So how come you've got their solo albums in your top 50 list but nothing by the Beatles?

Well it's like the OP said earlier, if you'd listen to the albums, you'd know why they are in the list. Henceforth I am going to tell people that when they ask me why I think a movie or a book is good/bad. "If you watch/read it, you will know why it is good/bad." I expect to be Captain Astounding Personality in no time.

It's 50 albums dude, not five. I don't have the time.

All Music is a great site though. I often agree with what they say, and they have very favorable reviews of almost all the albums on this list. You can go there to find out more.

Captain Austounding Personality OUT.

And about the Beatles, it's been answered earlier in the thread.

Convinces me you’re more parts plonker than someone who’s actually into music so, I’ll leave it there.

Ok bud. Thanks for that. Appreciate your opinion. It's very productive.
