Good evening all. I used to post on boards regularly over 10 years ago. In 2005 I got smart and moved to China. I'd recommend anyone still in Korea to do the same.

With that out of the way, please help me out here. I've become friends with a couple of expat 70 year old Brits who own the best wine bar in Macau. Lifelong travelers, they left England in 1965 (when they were only 20!) and missed the best that rock n roll has to offer. Basically they became jazz and folk fans and any rock song after 1965 just doesn't register with them.

I grew up on rock and have become a recent fan of jazz. I figure if I can go one way, why can't they go the other? To that end, I've compiled a list of the 50 best rock/punk/alternative albums of the last 50 years.

1965: Highway 65 Revisited - Bob Dylan
1967: The Doors - The Doors
1967: Strange Days - The Doors
1967: Are You Experienced? - Jimi Hendrix
1967: Velvet Underground and Nico - Velvet Underground
1968: Cosmos Factory - CCR
1968: Canned Wheat - The Guess Who
1968: Beggar's Banquet - The Rolling Stones
1970: Plastic Ono Band - John Lennon
1970: Funhouse - The Stooges
1971: Hunky Dory: David Bowie
1971: L.A. Woman - The Doors
1971: IV - Led Zeppelin
1971: Electric Warrior - T Rex
1971: Loaded! - Velvet Underground
1971: Who's Next? - The Who
1972: Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie
1972: Exile on Main Street - The Rolling Stones
1973: Band on the Run - Paul McCartney
1973: Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
1973: For Your Pleasure - Roxy Music
1974: New York Dolls - New York Dolls
1974: Crime of the Century - Supertramp
1975: Blood on the Tracks - Bob Dylan
1975: Born To Run - Bruce Springsteen
1977: Cheap Trick - Cheap Trick
1977: My Aim is True - Elvis Costello
1978: Parallel Lines - Blondie
1978: The Cars - The Cars
1978: Dire Straits - Dire Straits
1979: Rust Never Sleeps - Neil Young
1980: The Pretenders - The Pretenders
1980: London Calling - The Clash
1987: Robbie Robertson - Robbie Robertson
1987: The Joshua Tree - U2
1991: Nevermind - Nirvana
1991: Ten - Pearl Jam
1991: Road Apples - Tragically Hip
1991: Achtung Baby - U2
1993: Siamese Dream - Smashing Pumpkins
1994: Superunknown - Soundgarden
1996: Mr Happy Go Lucky - John Mellancamp
2001: Not Enough Education to Perform - Stereophonics
2001: Elephant - The White Stripes
2002: By The Way - RHCP
2004: American Idiot - Green Day

Okay, that's only actually 46 albums. I'm 4 short. The last album is 2004 which shows my age (I'll be 37 soon) but is that because rock is dead or I'm too old? Either way, I want to know your suggestions. Let me know where my list is short and where I need to make improvements. I intend on giving them on iPod that contains all of the music that I ultimately choose.

Thank you.

Stone Roses The Stone Roses 1989, Oasis Definitely Maybe 1994 or What's the Story Morning Glory 1995 and at least one Smiths album, probably The Queen is Dead 1986. Maybe a Queen album or Fleetwood Mac Rumours 1977? No Beatles album but three Doors?

Well, three Doors not quite by accident. They are my favorite group but I guess LA Woman can go. The Beatles? I never thought they had an excellent album.

Thanks for your other suggestios.

This is practically required:

1970: Black Sabbath - Paranoid

Man, those 70s.

Recently there's not much rock and roll worth a damn, but there's some. I like Ex-Hex - Rips and The Afghan Whigs - Do to the Beast. Older Afghan Whigs albums like Gentleman, Black Love and 1965 are probably more list-worthy though they did a damn good job with this one despite the 16-year hiatus and there only being one original member left.

For some more recent stuff, you need some Radiohead and/or Arcade Fire IMO. OK Computer by Radiohead for sures.

This website might help (and it's a lot of fun to look around on and find new music):

Thanks for your suggestions.

Deep Purple, Sabbath, Metallica etc are a little heavy for me. I get it. It's my problem.

I'm gonna check out the new stuff like Arcade Fire. It's too bad rock died after the 90's.

Well, you said rock albums...

A lot of stuff I thought of was already mentioned. But throw Cream on there. And hell, Tool's Undertow.

It didn't. Just stopped being radio-friendly unit shifter music.

inorite???

Possibly could toss Dookie on there if it's a heavily alternative-influenced list. But they were irrelevant after that.
