Would I have to undergo a detailed medical check in the U.K. before coming to South Korea? The reason I wonder about this is the following: The last time I went to Korea it was with the Jeollanamdo Language Program (this province does not use EPIK). When I got to the orientation in Gwangju, there was a medical check there. But I was told I should have seen a doctor in the U.K. and had some of the checks done there. So they scrambled to find extra time for me to see the doctor and complete the tests.
Well, I would not want a medical check in the U.K. I had to get one before I went to China, for the first time, and it was not available on the NHS-as the requirement of a foreign employer, it was deemed to be outside their remit. Consequently I paid 400 pounds and the cost has gone up since then.[/b] |

No. You do the check in Korea. ...Unless something has changed. But I've only done them here in Korea. |

Then probably it was just that someone from Jeollanamdo board of education wanted it or recommended it. In any case, I got to Korea without the medical check. |

You def don't need to...but if you have some concerns it might save you from making a long trip to Korea for nothing. I know of two cases where someone was informed they had cancer....one teacher got a routine check before coming over...they caught it and that person remained home to get treatment. The other teacher arrived....went for their medical check....cancer....sent straight home.
Obviously this is a pretty rare circumstance but it doesn't hurt to get checked out before coming over. |
