this job was posted in the past few days:

http://www.eslcafe.com/jobs/korea/index.cgi?read=65192

I thought it looked a little suspicious when I looked at their English site and did a little checking around.

According to the resident Korean cultologist (people should know who he is by now) this is a doomsday cult that as been around a while that actually goes back to the late 1800's looking at their history.

I would stay clear of this job like I would a Wonderland or CDI job

That comment isn't fair. JSD isn't a cult; and it isn't really a religion.

People shouldn't be discouraged. This might be an ideal job for someone with an interest in daoism, meditation or Eastern philosophy.

JSD practitioners believe a virus will spread across the globe and only those who follow the JSD teachings will survive. That's as bad as it gets. So what... I don't find that any worse than damnation/salvation and tithe. (I hope this doesn't start a religious discussion).

Someone should definately read the background of JSD before applying. But I wouldn't discourage anyone from the job. I have been to the main JSD complex in Daejeon and had the privilege of meeting the head poncho. JSD practitioners on the whole are good people.

They will want to teach you their beliefs and philosophy (which is interesting though very Korean-centric). I never felt pressured to join. I would guess that the person who takes this job will be respected even if they don't follow the teachings.

That being said, I wouldn't take this job in the same way that I (as an atheist) wouldn't want to spread the gospel. And I don't want to spread misinformation about anthropolgy etc.

By the way, JSD is a relatively new (since mid-70s). It stems from Cheondogyo which originated during the Donghak movement - an interesting time in Korean history.

Then the recent MERS pandemic must have been great for recruiting, hence the need for an editor/translator. Nevertheless, a cult definition involves "a relatively small group of people having religious beliefs or practices regarded by others as strange or sinister," so in fact, the comment by hogwonguy1979 is perfectly fair. All discussion contributing toward due dilligence should be welcomed. Caveat emptor.

This group's leader is a piece of clothing that is used as a coat and that is made of a single piece of cloth or plastic with a hole in the middle for a person's head to go through? That is one very strange cult indeed.
