I\'m seeing a lot of jobs on englishspectrum paying 2.5 these days, and wondering if it\'s all true. It seems like quite a sudden jump from the 2.0 to 2.2 range that\'s been offered the past few years I\'ve been snoopy around.

What have you guys noticed? I see a fair number of them are public elementary jobs.

I've just got an offer for an all-girls school for 2.5 with housing and flight. I guess I didn't know that was on the top end?

I've been sent about 10 jobs by recruiters and every single one is 2.0. I've seen a few higher posted but most of them sound dodgy.

Don't forget to figure out how many hours of work and hours of prep that are figured into that 2.5 million.

Take Poly Schools for example.

2.0-2.4 for regular hagwon, no kindy, to start. Even higher for kindy classes. They are well-known for their prep-times.

How did you get that? Through a connection, a recruiter, or a job board? I've been looking at lots of job postings and I don't recall any regular schools (public or private) offering 2.5 AND housing.

Also, what kind of teaching experience and qualifications do you have? If you have years of experience and an MA TESOL or something, I'll feel better. Right now I'm jealous that you got such a job without even having enough experience to know that the job is at the top end of the pay scale! But congratulations.

I found a job on Dave's that's paying me 2.7, flight, housing and a utility allowance. I'm not in Korea now, but I do have a degree in English Ed and a teaching certificate in the States, though. Just took some patience and perserverence. Not a hagwon, either.

I scoffed too, and figured the hours were lousy, but they sound normal.

Before anyone makes any comments, go to englishspectrum.com and check around... actually click on the ads this time before you post.

Most of them seem to be the public school offerings. And yes, they include housing. Hours were like 9 to 5.

The only one I found on www.englishspectrum.com was 2.5M for 30 hours per week teaching at a public school with no housing.

That is a lousy deal.

Korean public school teachers teach about twenty 40 minute classes per week.

There are many ads being placed by a company with the e-mail address "[email protected]."

They offer 2.5 with no housing.

I had an interview and job offer for one of their positions. The job seemed nice, but they wanted me to open a bank account under my name and give them control of it. They didn't tell me why, but I found out the reason is so the company can avoid paying taxes. That is illegal, of course.

The company's name is KES. Here is a thread I started a few weeks ago:
http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=22669&highlight=

I don't know if all of those positions in the ads are managed by the same people or if all of the positions would require the teacher to open a new bank account, but be careful.

Could somebody put a link to one of those ads? I looked at the positions posted in the last week, and have been casually looking at postings the past few weeks, but I didn't see any 2.5 + housing offers. I saw one job that offers 2.4 plus housing for a kyopo who has a TESOL or MA with 2 years of experience:

Yeah, there are tons of those posted as you mentioned (dodgy public school positions). But there are also:

Here\'s one for 3.5 plus housing:

http://www.worknplay.co.kr/view_job.jsp?jid=3544

This one 2.4 plus 300,000 housing allowance (female):

This one 2.4 plus housing:

http://www.worknplay.co.kr/view_job.jsp?jid=3564

These offer 2.5 or more but no mention of housing:

http://englishspectrum.com/2004/job_center.html?include=form&mode=view&id=13055&search_YN=Y&where=title&string=2.5&gid=1

http://englishspectrum.com/2004/job_center.html?include=form&mode=view&id=12822&search_YN=Y&where=title&string=2.5&gid=1

http://englishspectrum.com/2004/job_center.html?include=form&mode=view&id=12779&search_YN=Y&where=title&string=2.5&gid=1

Here\'s one that\'s for those on a long summer vacation: 7.5 million for 10 weeks. If I worked this, I\'d insist they pay me weekly:

You're right. The positions that don't mention housing probably don't offer housing, but the three positions you put at the top look good. I didn't look at worknplay before I responded, and I admit I didn't look at many of the posts on English Spectrum. I had looked at the public school jobs on English Spectrum, however, and that's what I thought you were refering to in your previous post.

The 3.5 is adults. That might mean a tough sched. First class at 6am last class finishing at 10pm. Moneys good just the same. Depends on your lifestyle. I've met people here with that kind of sched. and money who still party hard.
