I left Korea in 2013 with a F5-2 visa. I emailed immigration, and they said that I must re-enter September 26, which is 2 years since I left. What do I need to do if I want to go back after September 26 ? Can I enter Korea on a tourist visa wait and get an F6 in Korea ?

AFTER Sept 26 you are just like any other foreigner and your F5 is gone.

Yes, you can enter as a tourist and change your status after that provided you have the correct documentation and meet the visa status requirements.

Wouldn't I be able to get an F6 at the consulate before I leave the US ?

Yes, AFTER the F5 has died from being out of the country for more than 2 years you can go to the consulate and apply for your F6 but they may give you grief over it since you let the F5 die rather than return before the 2 year mark.

What are the documents that I will need to apply for the F2 ? My wife and son will be in Korea in September, I wish there was some way that my wife could activate my F5 .

Talk to your local consulate... they are the ones you will have to deal with.

Typically you will need proof of familial relationship and proof of income or assets.

If you plan to work as a teacher again you will also need (but not for the visa) authenticated copies of your degree and police clearance.

I went ahead and bought my air ticket today. My wife, son, and I are coming to Korea to visit family and job hunt. We are going to stay for almost a month with her mom. This will keep my F5-2 visa active.
