Just so that the rest of you can avoid the hassel I had today:
As of April 1, 2015, all Canadians applying for an E2 need their criminal record to have fingerprints. Getting the criminal record check notarized is no longer necessary.
Do not get your criminal record search done with the RCMP or local police. They won't be able to do this for you without a letter from the consulate (which the consulate angrily refused to provide for me). Go to a commissary and they will do it for you.
I won't tell you the whole story even though I want to... I had a bad day and it was all thanks to the local Korean consulate and their extremely rude, angry, and unhelpful staff.
Pro-tip: if you have a question or an issue get a Korean friend to call the consulate on your behalf. Do not try to explain the issue to the consulate staff.
Anywho... Just thought I would pass this along. |

Why start two threads?
In your other thread http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=236067&highlight= you ask about applying for a Canadian crc "in Canada" (your emphasis) & ttompatz & I answered your question. Now it turns out you're doing this from Seoul or somewhere else, wtf? & ragging on some girl at the embassy because you are clueless.
I've gotten a Canadian crc twice, once from Korea & once at home, & could have offered solid advice. But now I cant be bothered. |

First, thank you for trying to assist me. I mean that sincerely. I come on Dave's for advice and I am glad there are many people who are willing to assist.
I posted two threads for the following reasons:
The first thread was a question I was asking prior to finding out about the catch 22 situation that the Korean consulate has created. I just wanted to know how long it would take.
The second thread is a warning to Canadians so that they don't follow the advice currently listed on most websites which is now out of date. I created the second thread because the title of the first thread wasn't related to the topic in this thread.
This is what I learned today:
Prior to April 1, 2015, fingerprints were not necessary if you were applying from within Canada. I've never applied from Korea for a criminal record check so I don't know about that. This is the latest info according to the front desk staff at the consulate in Vancouver.
After my friend called the consulate they admitted they were wrong and that the RCMP and local police (VPD) will not do fingerprints. They then provided my friend with a website for a local commissary in Vancouver. I called the commissary and they are able to help me on Monday.
So, again. All Canadians applying from within Canada now need a criminal record search with fingerprints. The good news is that you do not need to get your record notarized by a notary public anymore. The bad news is that you can no longer get this done at a local police station or with the RCMP. If you can it's only because someone at the RCMP isn't following protocol.
If you don't believe me, that's cool, just please call the consulate and the RCMP yourself. |

The question is where is this line notice from from? Is this from the HiKorea/Immigration website or from a recruiter. Maybe from EPIK which makes it quasi correct.

Took upon myself and it looks like it is from the Vancouver Consulate site. Toronto Consulate still has old procedure. The Montreal consulate also has some details but no mention of this new regulation. Vancouver is usually the better of the group.
Also, recently in another group got informed that people could do the name check! Also as mentioned this is more applicable for those applying in Canada. Us in Korea still have some running around to do.
But
Thanks for taking the time and effort to try and inform us of this! |

This is the reason I posted this. Everywhere I went I was told or read that all I needed was a regular police certificate from the RCMP (without fingerprints). However, the new policy is right on the consulate' website as skippy pointed out.
I ended up wasting $82 and I thought maybe someone else could benefit and avoid my mistake. |

Can you provide the website and phone number of the commissary that helped you? I am in the same situation as you, looking for a way to get a fingerprint criminal record check. Thank you! |

Can you explain your situation better? Were you in Canada at the time of applying for your E2? Where does it say that ALL Canadians need this? If you look on the Vancouver consulate page it only says residents from BC, AB, SK, YK, and NWT would require that. On Toronto's consulate website it just has the normal CRSC is required. The reason I want to know is because I am in Canada on my D10, I was going to get some newer record checks done for when I switch back to E2 in Korea but don't know if I need the fingerprints done (I live in Toronto) |

I came over to Korea in May 2015 and didn't need any fingerprinting, I just got the basic police check from the police office and everything was fine. They even let me show an old student ID card so it was dirt cheap too.
I come from the GTA though and my area has its own police force (Peel Region) so I don't know if that makes a difference. I also went through the Toronto Korean Consulate. |
