Hello there,

I'm currently teaching adult business English in Seoul and based on my student/managerial feedback I'm doing a good job.

However, I am struggling with stress, anxiety and insomnia.

Therefore, I sought out a doctor who could help. She prescribed an extremely low dose of xanax (alaprazolam) for only one week.

I then went to another doctor who prescribed a stronger dose for one month.

Excellent !

I was now able to do my job without the fear of suffering episodes of anxiety and/or dissociation.

HOWEVER, when I took the script to a local pharmacy I was told she could not prescribe the medication as she could see my previous history (regarding the 1st doctor who prescribed a low dose).

AKA: I'm a "drug abuser". (Note: I've no history of abusing medication).

Frankly, I'm a little worried now.

Will my E2 be cancelled?
Will I be reported ?
How can I get the medications I need?

Thank you for any helpful replies,

Again - I am not a drug addict. I simply suffer from an anxiety disorder (as does my father - genetic perhaps...) which needs medical treatment.

Hopefully, I don't lose my job.

Will my school immediately know about my mental health issues???

I appreciate any useful replies,

Nick.

Did you go to the 2nd doctor after 1 week so that the previous prescription ran out or within that 1 week?

If you were going to get a 2nd opinion you need decline the 1st's prescription at first and say you'll come back later if you decide to do so.

Korea has a strong Doctor Shopping culture and a strong anti-drug policy and more importantly a national healthcare system. Because of the NHS your information is shared and at risk situations get flagged. Your situation is innocuous enough that there should be no problem, but if someone wanted to cause trouble for you here they now could, especially an employer. Luckily you don't work for a school or children's Hagwon. However if you are on an E2 visa or if you have your instructor's license through the MOE you may get reported there. (I am not sure on this but it would seem likely, please if someone who knows definitively chime in and correct any inaccuracies)

Not speaking from experience, lol, but you must wait until that original prescription runs out (date wise), then you can. Or, go back to the SAME doctor and they can renew/change before that "date". But it must be the original doctor.

13+ years in Korea, so take it for its worth.

Peace..
