Does anyone have experience working at, or know anything about, Geoje English Village?
I currently work at a different English Village so I have an idea of what the job itself would involve. I know a lot of people aren't huge fans of EV's, but I enjoy it. Anyway, I tried doing some research but couldn't find any specific info about employee experiences there. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you! |

I had to fill in at one for a couple of weeks during the winter vacation a few years back. Instead of prolongued English camps that I would have been sent around to by the Education office, this was an interesting break.
It was more like a hakwon environment in some ways. But, with the stability of the public school. You could make and teach and perfect your own materials. Could be fun and exciting in some ways, but strange in some ways with regards to more micro management and adherence to contract. With regular schools, each individual school will either be strict to contract or very relaxed to it with most schools somewhere in between. But the folks who work at it in my town, still follow the EPIK contract. But, it's now seperate from my city education office whereas up until two or three years ago, it was all together.
However, I've heard some EV's in Seoul and Gyeong gi do are run by private companies and might pay less and have different contracts. Went to the Paju one, which is huge with one of my schools for a visit and the teachers there privately complained about their jobs to me. |

No offense, but first finish a year's contract and then form your opinion. Anyone can teach at an EV for 1-2 months. After that you begin to see problems, starting with massive boredom. Ten percent of the teachers at the village I worked with did not finish their contracts and pulled runners.
I have experienced everything negative people say about a hagwon and much more. Everything. I will not go into more details until I don't need them as a reference, but the stories I could tell would make you cringe. My advice is to avoid them if at all possible.
My question for the OP: If you work at an English village now and it is good then why do you want to try a different one? Usually we find good places and stay. For this reason alone I am very suspicious of your post. It doesn't add up. You do get a 100k extra each contract you sign with them right? So why take a pay cut and risk trying out a new employer. It doesn't make sense to me. Instead it looks like an advertisement for the village named in your title. |
