Everywhere I look, there are horror stories about all of the chains. It's proving frustrating because I badly want to get back in to Korea, but I don't want to be worked like a monkey and treated like shit, yet this seems to be the guaranteed fate that awaits any EFL teacher in Korea, unless they work at a university.

In an ideal world, I'd like to teach only adults. What little recent information I've been able to find on Pagoda, Direct English, YBM or Wall Street seems mostly negative. This is fine, but if anyone can corroborate with information that's is less than five years old, this would be a big help.

I am open to teaching kids as well as adults, but not exclusively so. Split shifts are a reality I'm prepared to accept, as are early mornings. Can anyone provide any info?

People like to complain on the internet. So if you're reading a lot of negative reviews, I'd say that makes perfect sense. What you have to do is decipher the material by deciding what sounds like sour grapes and what sounds like legitimate problems that you wouldn't want to deal with personally.

Read the forums. It has become more competitive, and employers are demanding more and more from their employees while salaries have stagnated. This is the truth.

I have a great job, and it's not teaching adults and I'm not teaching University. And I will stay at this job until I am ready to leave Korea permanently. At that time, I will post my job to Facebook friends. That is how most of the good jobs get snatched up. Privately. Behind closed doors. The shitty jobs get blacklisted out in the open on the interwebs.

Try Sahmyook Language Institute. You can't really choose where you end up, but you'll be teaching all ages. You get off early on Friday, and every few months, you'll get a few days off. It's run by the SDA church, and they're usually very nice and honest people (I grew up in an SDA community..but then again, they were American and Korean Christians tend to be veeeeeery different from their American counterparts)
