Hi guys, my apologies if this has been covered before but i simply dont have time to trawl through the forum.
Basically I would like to know if, as a UK citizen currently in vietnam (tourist visa) , I can get a job/visa etc sorted from vietnam? ie, without having to return to the UK?
From what ive read on the korean online guidelines the answer would seem to be no, and that you can only apply from your country of birth.
If anybody could confirm this id really appreciate it. thanks. : ) |

You can, but it will be a pain in the ass with all the mailings required. Also, I'm not 100% positive vietnam as a Korean embassy. If it does not, then you will need to visit the nearest country that does. |

ok thanks for that info : ). there is an embassy here in saigon where i am at the moment. could you elaborate at all on the 'mailings required'
im aware of the various documents required for the process, but i have the original copies of my celta/degree here in vietnam, so perhaps i could get those certified by a lawyer here?
the police check would need to be from the uk i imagine but i think thats possible to get from overseas.
do you think they would be willing to conduct the embassy interview in any embassy?
cheers. |

As you are currently out of the UK, you cannot apply online. You have to fill in a paper application and send it to the UK and then wait for it to be sent back to you in Vietnam. The disclosure will be sent by surface mail which takes at least two weeks. They will not send disclosures by courier.

Realistically, the earliest you would be able to start is January.
There is no embassy interview. |

Isn't Vietnam a better place to teach? I've heard so and the drastically lower cost of living in Nam is a big benefit.
You'll need a criminal background check and proof of degree to teach legally in Korea, and then hope you'll get a good school to work for. |

Getting an E2 while on a tourist entry should not be a problem.
Getting your documents ready is another matter.
You need a background check from your home country and it NEEDS to have an apostille affixed to it.
You NEED a certified true copy made of your degree then that NEEDS to have an apostille affixed to it.
Then you can start to apply for jobs in Korea.
IF you are sitting in Saigon you can expect the process of obtaining your relevant documents to cost a small fortune and take MONTHS to complete.
If you have someone at home to do the running around for you then it is easier, cheaper and quicker.
Since airfare to Korea is usually part of the package it may make sense to return home to get the paperwork done.

The OP is currently based overseas, and in order to get a criminal record check he must personally fill in a paper form which would take at least a week to arrive from the UK. As I explained, it would be sent to him by surface mail which is very slow. So January is the earliest feasible time to start. |

They emailed me a copy of the form so I could print it while overseas. |
