I will not be in Korea for all of January which is when Koreans and foreigners must file taxes.

Has anyone else been in this situation before?

You can do it in May, but that means doing it yourself at the tax office. Your school/company will probably do it automatically in January, so get the papers from them to take with you, along with your YEs, Korea printout and stuff.
