So I've got all my documents ready and I've applied to a load of big recruiters (as well as EPIK directly), and I've just noticed how the next step in the guideline for Adventure Teaching for me is to submit my documents to the recruiter. Now, I remember browsing this forum a few months back, and everyone kept complaining that they had already submitted their documents to the recruiter and so they were stuck with them, and that it was a bad idea.

Any advice on when to send my documents? I had hoped I'd be able to avoid sending the documents until I'd signed a contract with the school, so I could shop around looking for the best deal, rather than being stuck with one recruiter, but is that possible at all?

I didn't (and wouldn't ever) submit my documents until I had accepted an offer and signed a contract, and then I sent them directly to the school. There's no need for a recruiter to have anything other than scanned copies of your documents prior to you accepting a position.

I have heard some people say they wouldn't even send scanned copies, but the recruiter does need to know you've everything in order - I just attached mine to all the CV's I sent out.

Thanks. I thought so. I'm guessing the recruiters want you to send the documents so they can lock you in, but won't put up a fight if I decline?

That is exactly it. Often times, recruiters will ask you to send your documents for a job that is a month away. Many tongs can happen during that time, especially a bait and switch.

Don't send anything until you are ready.

If a recruiter, or school, asks you to send them your documents beyond 3-4 weeks of the starting date, tell them to pack sand.

There is no reason why you or anyone should have to send those documents in a time frame that extends beyond that.

Bait and switch.
