Well, here I am again, looking to return to the Land of Morning Calm. I have all my E-2 visa docs. ready. I may try for public schools again but that will require more docs. I got a letter of recommendation from the last public school job, last year.
But my concern is about my resume. Lets backtrack to 2001. I was a very new, somewhat naïve, ESL teacher and I was offered a job in a small hagwon. Bad move, because the boss then fired me after 5 months, as he did with all western staff. He told me so. So I know.
I decided to leave it off my resume. Would it be a problem? It wasn't a problem with the public school, although immigration asked me to confirm that I had been at the hagwon. But would it be an issue if I applied for hagwon jobs now?
I fear that if I include the 5 moths in 2001, it will make my job search too difficult. What do you think?

I'm sure leaving off 5 months of job experience from 15 years ago is not going to sink your ship.

I mean, do you even have the contact information for the school? Are those people still in charge? Would they even recognize your name? Are they still alive?

Hogwon might not even exist now. No one will care.

You are giving the hogwon job way too much respect.

The application process nowadays, especially for public schools is so complicated that I ended up getting the impression that the slightest error, the slightest omission or irregularity would lead to my application being blocked. Of course the recruiters are adding to the problem.

My first job was back in 2006 and I got canned after 3 months. It was at a hagwon that has a pretty awful reputation on this board. Other than the job that I got immediately after getting canned, I've never included that job on my resume. Why would I? I flipped burgers in high school, that isn't on my resume either, and that was at a much more reputable institution than my first hagwon.
