Anyone have experience with this... I've received a paper check from the states and am wondering if it'll be a problem trying to get it deposited into my Korean bank account?

If it is a personal check, send it back and ask for cash.

If it is a cashiers/counter check then you CAN deposit it but there will be a handling fee AND they MAY (depending on the bank it was drawn on) hold it for 30-60 days while it clears.

I got a Woori foreign currency deposit account. I put checks in about once a month. They charge a small fee per transaction and takes anywhere from 21 to 28 days.

So, why not get your family to send the funds through paypal? You can pull the money out that way, but you would have to pull the money to your korean account. better yet find out what info you need from your korean bank, then ask your k bank for the info (routing number, swift number, account number, international number, address, etc). This way the fam could send money. If you're american, your debit card may work in a global atm or a mini stop family mart atm. in which case, your family could just put the money int your us bank account and you can pull it here.

Personal cheques are treated the same as cashier's cheques and money orders: Deposited for a fee and a hold on the funds for about 4 weeks.

Each bank is different. Ask them.

Usually about 10,0000 (that's what KEB charges me when I have to deposit SAT proctor checks) But again, each bank might be different as Young Frankenstein said.
