|
|
After reading many of the posts about camps, I am not sure if what I have been offered is such a great deal.
I have to decide soon, so any helpful advice would be appreciated.
Here is what I have been offered:
It is two, five-day sessions from M-F. I am only required to teach for four hours each day, but I need to be around to interact with the kids for the remainder of each day. All of the teaching material is being supplied, and my room and board as well.
For the ten days, they offered to pay me 1,000,000 KRW. At one hundred thousand per day, it ends up being twenty-five thousand per hour for teaching 10-12 kids.
Would you consider that amount to be fair?
Thanks,

I've just been offered a summer camp gig as well, and I'll give you the details just so you have a reference point. Mine is also two, five day sessions requiring 4 teaching hours (a teaching hour = 45 minutes) a day. However, I'm not required to be on-site during my non-teaching hours. So for me, it'll be daily from 9am-1pm. I'm welcome to join the students for lunch, but am not obligated to. As the camp is 5 minutes from my school, I'm able to stay at my own home. For this, I'll be paid 1,200,000 for the camp, or 30,000 per teaching hour.
Considering you're required to be on-site for the duration of the camp and are expected to interact with students, I'd say the salary seems low. You'll be putting in lots of hours. |

Raven,
Thank you for your reply. I know the hours will be long, but I hope it will allow me the time to find out if I am cut out for teaching in Korea before I commit to a one-year contract.
Kyle,
As far as I know, they were looking for four teachers (three, as I will more than likely accept the offer).
If you PM your email address to me, I can forward the information to you.
Before you PM me, you should know that the dates are July 19th-23rd and July 26th-30th, and it is in Chon'yang near Gongju.
Thanks again,
Nut |
