Can anyone please tell me whether school holidays have generally begun by 17th July?
My best friend is getting married in 2017 and wants to know if I can make this date (it would be the first day of the third week of July).

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on the school. Keep in mind that this is a year and a half away, so that gives you time to make arrangements. Also, if you work at public school your job might be eliminated by then. If it's hagwon, then your boss might fire you to save money. If it's University, same situation as public school.

This will be after all major Holidays. And 추석 in 2017 (Lunar 8/15 as always) is not until Solar 10/04 Solar. It comes late in 2017 because there are 2 Lunar Mays.

So, if you plan to go during a holiday, that is not possible. And July 17 is a Monday, so a fast week-end trip is not an option either.

It MIGHT fit inside of the summer break if you are in a public school. Since it is more than 1 academic calendar year away it is not confirm-able at this point in time.

If you will be working at a hagwon then holiday dates are somewhat more negotiable (depending on the relationship between you and your boss).

2017 will have a lunar leap month, repeating the 6th lunar month, not the fifth.

Nobody can really estimate that for you. Although the school itself will have approximately a month (sometimes a bit more) off, you, as the GET (Guest English Teacher) will get, at the most, one week off during the break between terms. You will be involved in the school's "English camp". It will be up to the school administration which week, if any, the school's camp will not be in session during the break. If you're extremely lucky, the school administration will let you know in advance of which week you can take off.

I would estimate the dates for Summer vacation 2017 would be between June 21st and September 22nd.

If you haven't even started your job yet (you said it "would be" starting in the spring...how do you know you've already got a job in March of 2017?) maybe you should just not start the job. Stay home. Ensure your attendance at the wedding. Priorities!

Thanks for the replies everyone. This has been my career goal foor the past 2 years so I've had to prioritise and just accept the fact I'll be unable to attend. Thank you for all your help anyway Smile
