Hey everyone,
I'm moving to Eunpyeong, Seoul this week and was wondering if anyone had any favorite hotspots in the area, or places they frequent often. I heard there is a lot of hiking due to the location. Anything from gyms to bars to markets... basically I'd love to hear anything you have to say about the area! |

I lived there for about a year, near Eunpyeong-gu office. There's a few small mountains for hiking, which actually connect to Bukhansan National Park if you love the outdoors - trailhead near Nokbeon station (line 3). It's a long walk though just to get to Bukhansan, so don't underestimate it. If you just want to to Bukhansan, there's buses that go straight there, can catch them at Nokbeon Station as well.
The Bulgwangcheon has nice bike paths, which you can ride all the way to World Cup Stadium/Han River - makes for a nice Saturday or Sunday afternoon this time of year.
Big emart at Eungam Station (line 6) - huge camping/outdoor section. Daejo traditional market at Bulgwang Station (line 3/6) - cheap produce & some good Korean restaurants. Across from the market is NC Department store - good to go get anything you'd normally get at emart on 2nd/4th Sundays.
There's one decent place for a good beer, called "No Beer, No Life" at Gusan Station (line 6) but it's more of a restaurant. There's really no nightlife or drinking spots other than chicken/Korean barbecue restaurants or pojang machas, that's ok, your neighborhood mart is the cheapest drink in town anyway. For better nightlife, it's easy to get Jongro/Seoul City Hall area on line 3, or to Hongdae & Itaewon on line 6. Overall I quite liked living there a lot - hope you do too. |

For nightlife you'll want to head to Yeonsinnae. It's Hongdae Lite. For the full Hongdae / Itaewon experience they are only 20 / 30 minutes away by subway respectively and a late night return taxi won't run you much more than 10k Won.
Lots of gyms and pools available in the area and as the previous poster said the riverside biking, running path that starts at Eungam and runs all the way to the Han River park is there.
The Bukhansan National Park abuts the city here. Lower peaks (350-400m) are right outside your door and offer great views of the city. The main peaks (700m) can be reached in 3-4 hours of hiking and the main peak Baekundae (835m) can be reached in 5-6 hours hiking. Main trails can be very congested especially in from April to October but there are a lot of lesser traveled trails that you can hike in relative seclusion even on the weekends.
Back to Yeonsinnae, the nightlife area is out exit 6 from the station. Lots of options. My two favorite are What the Pub and Baby Guinness.
I love the area because it's a quick jaunt to downtown but is one of the quietest neighborhoods I've ever lived in and has the park for hiking.
Good luck on your move. If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a pm. |

I second T.J. Yeonsinnae has all the restaurants, bars etc. I live about 10 min up the road from the station and it's peaceful and quiet (helps that I live on a ridge). |
