I know that a lot of job-seekers are concerned about signing a contract without knowing if a hagwon is good to work for or not, so I will post about where I worked. I worked at King's Kids in Seoul. It's a kindergarten with several branches, and I worked at the Songpa-gu branch (-gu shows which "district" of Seoul). The school was beautiful and we had more than enough staff, including "helper teachers" who stapled our student paper packets, who brought snacks, who comforted crying children, etc. My students were super smart and really kind to me. I never had a problem getting my paycheck or anything that was owed to me. In fact, whenever my super busy boss, Robert Kim, could help me with something (like returning a rice cooker that I paid wayyyyy too much for), he would. I had a new apartment with a patio that had floor to ceiling windows. I know that there are crappy places to work for, but this one was good for me. The reason I left Seoul was due to my sensitivity to the high air pollution. I hope this helps and I wish all job-seeking teachers the best!

And a review of their shady hiring practices from another website:

Kings Kids English Academy in Gangnam and Songpa

I applied with Kings Kids English Academy in Gangnam and Songpa. After a phone and Skype interview, I was offered a contract, and asked to review it.

When it came time to signing the contract, the representative of Kings Kids was nice enough to meet me in my area of Seoul, but then stated that he was not able to hire me because I was too Asian looking. Even though he had two contracts in hand.

I've read good things about the place, and was excited because the Point of Contact was very insistent on having me sign a contract so he could get the Visa process moving along.

I don't mind being told I'm not an ideal candidate because of my Asian ancestry, I get that. I'm more annoyed that I was strung along, turning down two other job offers for this.

So, if you're not Asian American or Indian American, I'm told this is a nice place to work. Otherwise, keep looking.

So I suppose it's a great place as long as you look correct to get hired.
