Hello, I would like some advice on the best ways to get tutoring students in Korea; I have an F-series visa, so I would not be breaking the law. I am not picky about student age and was thinking I would start off by passing flyers out at universities to students walking by. I also read somewhere that I can advertise on apartment notice boards. Do either of these routes sound like a good way to get students? Advice/opinions would be appreciated!

I guess people who are knowledgable about this kind of thing wouldn't want to encourage a competitor.

It's not like you can freely run around teaching for pay, legally that is. Go to the education office and get a license. There are a lot of guidelines. Even with an F VISA and a license, there are many rules and many restrictions.

Don't forget that the taxman wants his cut, too. When I used to have a study room in one of my apartments, I had to register it with the tax office. Even when I closed the study room, the tax people were sniffing around for money for the next two years.

Adverts in apartments may or may not be successful. The fancier places, which may have wealthier residents(who actually may be very cheap when it comes to private tutoring fees), are likely going to charge you more. If you don't do things through the management office of apartment complexes, the ad will be ripped down and tossed same day. If you live in the same complex, going to the play area with your kid(if you have) and interacting with the kids/moms/dads is a step in the right direction. Your spouse, if you have a Korean one, would/should be a great help as well.

Flyers given to uni students may or may not give desired outcomes as well. Lots of students dread English class. Most just want a good TOEIC score to get them that Samsung job.

Best of luck/skill.
