Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation to me and can advise what happened to them? I am a UK national currently applying for a Korean work visa.

I had my criminal check (from the Scottish service) notorised by a solicitor and sent it to be legalised at the Foreign and Common Wealth Office. The solicitor had made a small mistake and so the document was returned to me without being legalised.

I took the document to another solicitor who crossed out the original notary and notorised it a second time for me. This time the document was legalised and has the apostille glued to the back and everything.

When the recruiter received all the documents she questioned the criminal check and why something is crossed out. I explained the situation and said she could go ahead and use the verification code on the apostille to check it has been apostilised on the Direct Gov website which she did.

She still thinks the immigration office might not accept it and has asked me to request a letter form the original solicitor confirming he made a mistake. Surely the verification code is enough? I really don't want to have to go through the expense of getting a fresh criminal check and doing the whole process again.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks

It's going to come down to the immigration officer on the day, and there's no way of knowing for certain until your VIN is applied for. You might hear someone in the same situation who had no problems, and another who had it rejected.

However, as the apostille is attached to the document, and that makes it internationally valid, it should be accepted. But you could get a fussy immigration officer on the day.

I would definitely ask the solicitor to provide the letter (as it was his mistake he should do it free of charge) and send that too. Better to do that than have it rejected and regret not having bothered.

Yes you're right there is no reason for it to be rejected but I guess it depends on the person.

The solicitor has agreed to provide the letter now and the school isn't going to the immigration office until Friday so that gives me time to get everything sorted.

Thanks for your advice, it's much appreciated Smile
