don't even know if 'need to rant' clearly defines how i feel at the moment; but please do beware - i've learned they fired all the regular contract teachers after their winter camp in order to avoid paying out severance, etc in march when their contracts would be up.

i'm only here at a summer camp but there are some permanent teachers here also

they've restricted teachers to the campus and dorms and one has to ask permission to leave but they don't always grant it!!! we spend ALL our time w/the students, they don't even let us eat together, nothing - yet k teachers and staff mingle freely and hang out

we were told it was 'free time' after dinner - another teacher and i were walking back and the dir drove by and screamed at us to get back and walk w/our students even tho BOTH our k coteachers had said they'd walk the kids back.

they bark at us and the students like dogs - i swear - there are so many of us just enraged at the disrespect and abuse - it's deplorable -

a couple of people who were injured just before camp came here in bandages and one on crutches - were confined to their rooms the first day and refused to let them go to the dr - finally a dr was brought here to look at them late in the evening

anyway, they DO have an opening coming up in the fall so PLEASE BEWARE this place is a hell hole -

oh god did i forget to mention the putrid odor emanating from the locality?? i think it's a slaughterhouse near by or something, as yet it's unidentified but is really awful.

and it's NOT in jeonju like they say - it's in wanju which is a separate city altogether, 20 minutes from jeonju, out in the sticks really

i don't know if i can take it, camps are always tough but this one, i mean it's like maybe this is what n. korea is like? no kidding, they are so fascist here - Evil or Very Mad

Damn. That sounds like some sort of re-education camp for political refugees. How the hell can they tell you what to do when you're not teaching? I take it you're on an E-2. Finish the camp, get your cash, THEN drop a dime on them.

Welcome to wonderful world of Korean summer camps.

Be thankful you're not on a SMOE summer camp. SMOE camps are 19 days of treating you like a child, making you supervise and teach 13 & 1/2 hours a day(before 'meetings at 9pm), locking you in with students after 10pm, compulsory attendance, compulsory 2 teachers to a tiny room, and only giving you 1 day off after 14 days straight work.

I just can't wait to resign up for more of this great stuff.

That sounds awful.

Note to anyone reading this board and thinking about working for SMOE: DON'T!

The smell is coming from the waygook slaughter house near the cafeteria.

They'll slaughter you if you try to escape.

I see that they are looking for more fresh meat.

Is this the uni or the hakwon posing as a uni?

Were you talking to some dumb biatch named Brenda?

You seriously shoudl have done a check for that place. I put up a warning about this place a year ago. (if it's the hakwon place that is).

Is your boss Korean? Does he tell you what to do? Have you smacked him upside the head yet?

If a Korean told you what to do you'd probably cave and say "yes master".

Does anyone work here at the actual university or know someone who does? This post is old and about a camp position, which could be quite different than than the English lecturer position currently posted. Still, it has me concerned..

Anyone have any experiences here?
