Okay, so I decided to stay at my school for another year and went to the Immigration office. They did not stamp any information into my passport...they only made a notation on the back of the alien card under the Period of Stay section. This covers the time until my contract expires next year.

I am wondering about travelling in and out of Korea. I certainly will be taking several vacations in the next few months and was wondering if I can expect any problems at Immigration...not so much when I leave Korea...but when I try and re-enter. I'd like to hear from people that have actually travelled in and out of the country with only their alien card notated and their E-2 visa in the passport expired. No speculation, please...only people who have actually done it. Thanks a lot.

Your visa status is cool with only the notation on your ARC but you must get a re-entry stamp in your passport for travels outside the country.

Its easy. Go back to your immigration office & ask for the re-entry permit form. Sounds like you want to check the 'multiple re-entry' option, it'll cost you 50000 won & get you the necessary stamp in your passport. Takes just minutes.

You have to get a new multiple entry visa.

The one you have now will only be stamped up to the date of the end of your first contract.

As you finish your first contract go to immigration and get one and problem solved.

I got hasseled at the airport when i re-extended my alien card for another year and was told if I don't get a new re-etnry visa then i can't come back as my first one was out of date even with a valid alien card.

Sorry to contradict, just because, & your advice isnt wrong, but just to keep it simple .. Your visa & your re-entry permit are two distinct requirements. You need to keep them both up-to-date.

The OP has already done this regarding his visa (doesnt show in the passport), but the re-entry stamp has to be there.
