My understanding is that Gingrich will only serve as Vice President if he has real power. As in, he aspires to make first-term Bush administration Dick Cheney look as relevant as Admiral Stockdale.
Frankly, this would hold a lot of appeal for President Trump. Trump has almost no interest in governing. Except for trade policy, Newt Gingrich could run the administration agenda for him.
Yay 90s? |

I was not taking ethnicity into consideration...I don't understand why you chose to add that in there. Then again....
Bill Clinton matches your description expect for being married...how often do you rag on him?
Anyway, I feel trump needs a ying to his yang, and Carson would be a perfect fit. Newt already had his time as SOH and had to step down for certain reasons. Christie has a decent record as governor of New Jersey. But, I still think that Carson would be the best fit. |

Yeah, Leon. Why you gotta make everything about race?

Yes, Clinton (Bill) fits as well, but why bring up the obvious. TB I wasn't be that serious, just thought it funny how well it plays to a stereotype of the GOP, family values of the social conservatives and all that. |

Considering who he is married to, he may as well be. |

Pretty much, I suppose.
This one reason why Dr. Carson would be a good choice...cool, calm, collected and highly intelligent. |

It won't be Carson because Carson is an outsider as well. Trump needs someone who is politically savvy and has experience dealing with the crooks in Washington. Using that criteria, Newt is likely the best pick, main issue being his age. Carson's loyalty should ensure him a position like Surgeon General though. |

While you do have a solid point, and, I can't disagree, I still feel that Carson would be a more balancing choice.
While I do admire Newt and I would relish the the opportunity to see him debate again, if he is the VP candidate, he very well may cost Trump the presidency.
Newt's age, indeed. His reputation as SOH is also a concern. |

I don't think Trump is going to pick a running mate that is going to talk over him. If he picks a male, he will pick a clear beta male. |

Make sure you check for shots before you read the following ideologically rabid articles:
They were made for each other
Quote: |
Gingrich and Trump have forged an unlikely partnership. Trump is the monster Gingrich helped create, and now the master has returned to serve his monster—perhaps even as his running mate. |
A Ticket Only a Democrat Could Love
Quote: |
The thought [in the 2012 primaries] that they had been wrong all along, and that they might end up running against Newt instead of Romney, left Democrats absolutely beside themselves. As it happened, I interviewed House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi in December 2011 just as Gingrich was reaching peak strength. She seemed to struggle with the tension between her giddiness at the thought of taking on the former speaker, and her strategic intuition that she could hurt Gingrich’s chances by divulging damaging information about him.
. . .
For a campaign struggling as badly as Trump’s is, and for a candidate with Trump’s liabilities, the ideal running mate is someone who has governing experience, and can be sold to the doubtful as a ballast to Trump’s wayward leadership. Someone like Corker or Pence, in other words, rather than someone like Gingrich who compounds Trump’s worst problems (brash, philandering, erratic, etc.). But it isn’t clear that anyone of stature in the GOP would take the job. If it were, Gingrich probably wouldn’t be anywhere near the short list, and Corker wouldn’t have taken himself off of it.
. . .
Of course, a vice presidential nominee will become colored inevitably by the public’s perception of the person leading the ticket, and that goes double for the unfortunate soul running with Trump, who leaves an unusually potent residue. If Gingrich has any hope at all of becoming the GOP’s vice presidential nominee, it’s because few people of any merit would be willing to run with Trump, and Trump would be reluctant to run with anyone who didn’t hop aboard the Trump Train early on. |
Trump recently said he could not recall a Vice President ever helping the top of the ticket. Well, this is his way of tempering expectations. |
