Has anyone had any experience reporting a birth to the US embassy? It seems pretty straight forward on their website, but I'm looking for first hand experience. One part I'm worried about being especially troublesome is proving my residence in America for five consecutive years.

I did this and did not experience any problems with it at all. Between transcripts and social security documentation, it shouldn't be hard to meet the basic criteria, and although this is anecdotal, the people working at the American embassy generally seem to want to help citizens to the greatest extent possible. Exactly what are you worried will happen?

Just worried about gathering the documentation that I lived in America easily. So college transcripts and my social security card would be enough?

College transcripts are correct, but your social security card would be insufficient, at least as far as I remember, because you need evidence of presence in America, not mere citizenship. I actually presented evidence of social security payments. Other tax forms would have worked just as well, I imagine.

Okay, I appreciate the info! Now to gather all of the documents and make a run during summer vacation...

I showed a combination of transcripts and an old recommendation letter showing I worked for 3 years at the job on company letterhead. Total of 7, proof shown. Any combination of official paperwork will do the trick. No real worries provided you have it. And the 5 consecutive years have to be AFTER your 16 or 18th birthday, if the rule hasn't changed.

Thanks! I ordered my transcripts at the two universities that I went to. That covers 7 years. They said unofficial pdf versions were acceptable.
